2024 Season Opening Commodore's Greetings

Published on 1/29/2024

Welcome to 2024!

It feels like Spring right now and I wish that it would last, but unfortunately; more winter weather is certainly coming. With that in mind, I want to tell you about CB2’s upcoming season so that we all have great things to look forward to.

Your executive committee has put together what I believe, is a wonderful schedule of events for 2024. The first event is right around the corner, so I’ll start with details concerning training on 24 February.

The training session will be held at Happy Harbor Restaurant. Happy Harbor is located in Deale, not far from HHN and Shipwright. Start time is 0900 and it should wrap up around 1400. Marty has lined up a couple of great speakers and there will be a lite breakfast and lunch will be served around 1300. Registration is open and the fee is $15 per person to offset the costs. There will be another email soon providing more details.

The spring meeting is scheduled for 16 March at Pirates Cove. Doors will open at 1130 and lunch will be served at noon. The upcoming season will be briefed and CB2’s charitable donation to Sail Beyond Cancer will be presented.

The season kickoff happy hour will take place on Kentucky Derby day, 4 May at Shipwright Marina. Don your derby attire and of course there will be mint julips!

The first sailing event will be a raft-up/anchorage at Round Bay (Severn River) on 18-19 May. This is the weekend before the Blue Angels perform at the Naval Academy, so it can give you a head start on positioning your personal viewing platform for the show.

June contains the first BOLD trip of the year. This will be the short BOLD starting on 7 June and ending on the 15th. A CB2 flotilla will head North for a tour of the northern reaches of the Chesapeake Bay. Havre de Grace will certainly be on the itinerary, and it should be a new experience for many members since the northern bay has not been on the schedule for a very long time.

Originally, an event centering on Annapolis was discussed due to member input. However, with the upcoming waterfront construction, Oxford was decided on as a weekend gathering place 20-21 July.

Next, CB2 will embark on a counterclockwise loop of the DelMarVa peninsula. The 17-day BOLD will start on 15 August and weather permitting, should finish on 31 August.

September often has some of the best sailing conditions of the season, so 2 events were placed on the schedule. The Commodore’s Crab Fest will be held at Lankford Bay Marina on the weekend of 14-15 September. The feast will be on Saturday, 14 September. A weekend anchorage on San Domingo Creek will take place 28-29 September.

CB2 will have an ‘after the sailboat show closes’ party on 11 October. Once again there should be exclusive use of the Beneteau America Booth and access to the newest Beneteaus on the market.

November 9, the club will hold its annual fall meeting at Pirates Cove. Since this is an even year, elections for the executive committee will be held. Please make sure to mark your calendar so you can be present to vote on CB2’s future leadership.

The calendar of events can be found on CB2’s website. I am looking forward to all the opportunities to spend time ashore and afloat with the CB2 family!

Cheers,

Chuck
